Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd plans to expand the
capacity of its prilled ammonium nitrate (AN) unit in Taloja, Maharastra, by 30,000 tonnes per year from 70,000 tonnes.

The company's planned out lay for the project was Rs. 55 crore. It had sold 90,000 tonnes of AN in the financial year 2001-02. Of this, exports were worth $1 million.

The project is expected to be fully commissioned by September-October, said a DFPCL official. The new 30,000-tonne plant based on technology supplied by Grande Paroisse of France is in line with the company's plans to import additional ammonia at Nhava Sheva.

Last year, Deepak had imported an additional weak nitric acid plant from Ireland to supply raw material for AN.
