Deepak Fertilisers to expand ammonium nitrate unit capacity

Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd (DFPCL) plans to expand the capacity of its prilled ammonium nitrate unit in Taloja, Maharashtra, by 30,000 tonnes per year from the existing 70,000 tonnes. The company's planned outlay for the project was Rs.55 crore. It had sold about 90,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in the financial year 2001-02. Of this exports were worth $1million.
The project is expected to be fully commissioned by September-October, said a DFPCL official. The new 30,000-tonne plant, based on technology supplied by Grande Paroisse of France, is in line with the company's plans to import additional ammonia at Nhave Sheva in Maharashtra. Recently, the company had imported an additional weak nitric acid plant from Ireland to supply raw material for ammonium nitrate.
