The Present...
Part of Deepak Foundation's Annual Report, 2001-2002
Today, DMF & DCT although separate entities with different programs, share a common goal of capacity building and development.
DMF provides preventive and curative services on an outpatient basis to about 30 villages around Nandesari with an approximate population of 60,000 persons. In addition DMF's full-fledged hospital provides in-patient services of gynecology and obstetrics; and emergency services supported by an ambulance. The hospital offers high quality and subsidized health services to the local population. Apart from the full time resident doctor, consultants in gynecology and pediatrics, from Vadodara city, visit the hospital on a regular weekly basis. Diagnostic services such as sonography are now offered in the hospital.
Over the last few years, DMF has also expanded its activities to Maharashtra and has a medical establishment in the village of Chindhran (near the industrial estate of Taloja) in Raigarh district. The clinic is staffed by a medical doctor and paramedical staff and offers high quality OPD and emergency services. DMF also organizes special health camps for the villages around Chindhran.
DCT has expanded its activities to 30 villages in the Nandesari area and to 6 villages in Taloja (Maharashtra), which together cover a population of about 70,000. Interventions in the program areas of education, livelihood and women's empowerment form its core activities. Today DCT endeavours to improve the quality of life of the community through developmental activities. Basing its interventions on the felt needs of the community, DCT involves the community in its decision-making process. DCT recruits its personnel from the local community as it finds them to be highly motivated to improve the circumstances of their own community and vice versa the community accepts changes suggested by them readily as they are familiar and trusted agents. Sustainability of programs is of the utmost importance. |
