DEEPAK FOUNDATION TO EXPAND ACTIVITIES
As part of its continued commitment to social development, the Company has been contributing towards social causes during the last 20 years through Deepak Medical Foundation (DMF) and Deepak Charitable Trust (DCT).
DMF and DCT have been working towards improving the health, education and livelihood of the people primarily of women and children of Nandesari in the district Vadodara, Gujarat and of Taloja in the district Raigad, Maharashtra reaching out to over 50 villages covering approximately 90,000 people.
The community development programmes and social activities carried on by DCT and DMF have been given in last year's Annual Report.
Additionally, the following activities were undertaken during the year :
1. Organised groups of women have started demanding their rights. As a Sangathan, they have got the water pipeline to reach their homes and the ST buses to stop near their village. They have succeeded in bringing about several such infrastructural developments in their communities. Nyaya Samitis have been formed to address the legal rights of women.
2. First Time Parents Project was set up (in partnership with the Population Council) to improve awareness and services in reproductive health for adolescent couples and newly-weds.
3. DCT undertook special projects to help Muslim women, who were victims of the recent Gujarat riots. About 60 such women were trained in tailoring and embroidery skills which will contribute to their livelihood.
DCT plans to expand activities in the entire rural district of Vadodara, working in tandem with the Govt. of Gujarat and other NGOs. DCT will act as a mother NGO directing the district level projects. DCT will thus serve as a model not only for the state but also for the nation as a whole. |
